FAQ

Your Most Common Questions Answered

Who should attend a workshop?

Workshops are open to anyone 18 years of age and older, both male and female. Workshops are beneficial for individuals who have just begun a recovery process or who have been on a recovery path and may be stuck or want to deepen their experience. Workshops can also be a source of renewal for anyone who has undergone treatment.

How was the curriculum for the workshops developed?

The workshop curriculum has been developed in concert with our Senior Fellows, grounded in the evidence-based work of world-renowned industry experts and advanced by our creative workshop team.

Who facilitates the workshops?

Our workshops are facilitated by highly-skilled, master’s-level therapists.

Do I have to go through a screening process before I can attend?

Appropriateness of care is of the utmost importance to us. Before being registered for a workshop, all participants must go through a brief screening process with our Intake Coordinator to assure they are clinically appropriate for a workshop.

How do I register for a workshop?

Since workshops fill quickly, we encourage making reservations three to four weeks in advance. You can register by contacting our Intake Department at 866-494-4930.

Will my insurance cover it?

Workshops are not covered by insurance carriers. Payment is the attendee’s responsibility and is due at registration.

Where do the workshops take place? Do you offer them in my area?

With the exception of our equine workshop, all of the workshops are conducted at the Rio Retreat Center at The Meadows in Wickenburg, Arizona. The center is situated on a serene, historic dude ranch that is very peaceful and private.

What about transportation?

For those individuals who are staying with us in the Bunkhouse, transportation will be provided to and from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Transport times are as follows:
Sunday Arrival: A shuttle will pick up guests at 1 pm, 3 pm, and 7 pm on Sunday. Participants will need to find their way to the Starbucks inside Terminal 4.
Friday Departure: There are two shuttle departures from Rio Retreat on Fridays at 3:00 pm and 4:00 p.m. All Rio Retreat guests will be taken back to the airport at this time. If you do not have a flight back on Friday night, you may want to find lodging near the airport. There are no exceptions and no stay-overs beyond Friday as there are no staff/services available at the Bunkhouse on Saturdays.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer any additional shuttle times for workshops. If you cannot make one of the above shuttle times, you will be responsible for your own transportation.

All other workshop attendees are responsible for their own transportation; suggested transportation options will be sent in your confirmation email. Wickenburg is approximately one and a half hours from the Phoenix airport. Attendees can rent a car or take a shuttle from the airport. We will provide a daily shuttle to and from your hotel in Wickenburg to the Rio Retreat Center while at the workshop for those who need it.

Where do I stay when attending a workshop?

You can book an on-site room when you register for your workshop for added convenience and a more immersive healing environment. All lodging at Rio Retreat is designed to be conducive to the process of healing and recovery, so rooms are purposely free of the distractions that often accompany hotel lodgings such as TVs and phones.

Bunkhouse rooms are very simply furnished with two full-size beds and a private bathroom. For an upgraded single-occupancy lodging experience, Hacienda offers a queen-size bed and private bath along with a private lobby area with refreshments. Our newest lodging option, Estancia, offers double-occupancy rooms with two queen-size beds and a private bath. All lodging is available on a first-come, first-serve basis, and early registration is recommended to ensure that your preferred option is available.

Are meals included?

All meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are prepared by our extraordinary chef and served at the Rio Retreat Center campus. Special dietary needs can be accommodated.

Is there anything to do in the evening after the workshop?

Yes! We offer a number of activities in the evening for those who are interested. These include a variety of activities offered weekly: live music, art therapy, yoga, tai-chi, 12-step meeting, games, and a bonfire. Participating in these extra activities is a great way to learn from and receive support from others facing similar issues.

Can my spouse or someone else come with me?

This depends on the workshop you are attending. However, it is recommended that you come alone so you can work on yourself.

Can I come to the same workshop more than once?

Yes, it is possible; however, it depends on the workshop type and your particular circumstances. The intake coordinator will help you determine which workshop is in your best interest.

What is the typical temperature in Arizona and what should I wear?

The temperature varies greatly so people often wear layers as cool mornings can become warm afternoons. We ask that people wear relaxed comfortable clothing that is modest and casual.

What happens if I need to cancel?

We rely on an accurate attendance count to make important arrangements for your workshop. If a cancellation occurs 14 or more days prior to the start of the workshop, a full refund, less a $600 administrative fee, will be issued or an allowance will be made for a one-time transfer to another workshop date. Cancellations less than 14 days before the beginning date of the workshop are non-refundable. If you have to cancel or transfer your workshop, please contact our Intake Department as soon as possible; we often have a waiting list of people who want to attend.
